Students from Moriah’s school drama club perform Les Miserables.
Programs- for grade school, middle school and high school- are taught using an improv-based method that Black Box’s founders developed during their years working in professional theater in New York. Students begin by working with our teaching artists on the fundamentals of acting and performance, such as voice, movement, character development, script analysis, and song interpretation.
Students then put these skills into use as they perform scenes, songs, and productions of plays and musicals under the direction of Black Box’s instructors. Courses are performance-based and culminate in an end-of-semester production that is fully-staged and open to family, friends, and the school community.

These programs also feature a technical theater component that teaches students about the skills needed to work backstage, such as stage management, lighting design, set design, costume design, and more. Students then use what they’ve learned to design and run the technical aspects of the productions.
Black Box’s School Programs bring the performing arts to students, regardless of their age, background, or experience level.
